Description

The Kapsaliana Sleep Mask was inspired by a stay at Kapsaliana Village in the mountains of Crete, surrounded by olive groves, old stone buildings and wide blue skies.

Handcrafted from surplus Italian wool and linen tweed with a 100% pure mulberry silk lining, the mask is softly padded with natural wool. Its generous shape blocks out unwanted light to create a cocoon of darkness around the eyes, while the smooth silk sits softly against the delicate skin around the eyes.

The surplus tweed was found in limited quantity and given a new life in The Beauty Sleeper collection.

Days at Kapsaliana unfolded among olive trees, warm stone and the quiet landscape of the Cretan mountains, with a rhythm that felt entirely its own.

Earthy, tactile and quietly timeless, Kapsaliana carries something of that Cretan landscape with it.

Handmade in very limited quantities. Once the fabric is gone, it is gone.

Why Darkness Matters

Light is one of the most powerful signals the body uses to regulate our natural sleep-wake cycle. Even low levels of ambient light, from a streetlamp or early morning sun, can make complete darkness surprisingly difficult to find.

By blocking out unwanted light, a sleep mask creates a consistently dark environment that can help you settle into sleep and remain undisturbed by changes in light throughout the night and into the early morning.

Craftsmanship

Our pieces are designed in Copenhagen and handcrafted in small quantities by a family-run sewing studio in Shanghai, a city with a long tradition of working with silk.

We work closely with our Danish-based partner, who oversees the making of each piece. Every piece is carefully cut, sewn and finished by hand, with close attention to the details that make it comfortable to use and beautiful to live with, night after night.

For selected designs, we work with surplus and deadstock fabrics, allowing beautiful existing materials to find a new purpose.

Fabric & Care

This handcrafted sleep mask is made from Italian surplus wool and linen tweed, giving a beautiful existing fabric a new purpose.

The exterior is a blend of 58% wool and 42% linen, with a lining of 100% pure mulberry silk, chosen for its exceptionally smooth, soft feel against the delicate skin around the eyes. A layer of natural wool sits between the fabrics, adding gentle insulation and giving the mask its softly padded, comfortable feel.

Silk, linen and wool are naturally breathable fibres, helping the mask feel comfortable against the skin throughout the night.

Wash on a wool or silk programme at a maximum of 30°C using a specialist wool and silk detergent. Do not tumble dry. Lay flat or hang to dry away from direct sunlight. Iron on low heat if needed.

Shipping & Delivery

Free shipping is available on orders over DKK 2,000 within Denmark and €450 on international orders.

Orders placed before 12 noon on working days are dispatched the same day. Orders placed after 12 noon are dispatched within 1–3 working days.

In Denmark, orders dispatched on a working day are usually delivered the following working day.

Kapsaliana Village

Kapsaliana is a restored Cretan village in the mountains above Rethymno, a place of old stone walls, vast open sky and olive groves that have been growing for longer than anyone can quite account for. On a family holiday at the Kapsaliana Village Hotel, nested in the quiet of the hillside, the particular quality of rest that belongs to ancient places became very clear.

No hurry. No noise. Just warmth, and time, and the sound of the wind through the trees.

The woven exterior carries the colours of the landscape around it. Deep navy and dark brown echo the Aegean at depth and the ancient rock of the hillside, while the ice blue threads running through the geometric pattern reflect the shimmering light on the water and the vast open sky above. The pale ice blue edging ties it together with a quiet precision that feels entirely right.

The Beauty Sleeper Story

The Beauty Sleeper began with a simple desire to create a sleep mask beautiful enough to leave on the bed rather than hide in a drawer.
